SRA update expert core groups

For the development of a Strategic Research Agenda  for sustainable farm animal breeding and reproduction (SRA, in 2006/Spring 2007) thirteen technical Expert Groups with specialists from industry and research are foreseen. They have developed a document in their field of expertise, and a two page summary as technical input for the SRA. At the moment in 2011, an update of these report as well as the whole SRA was necessary. Therefore there have been 13 core groups assembled again to provide input on this update, coordinated by Fenna Zeilmaker from EFFAB.

Three categories of expert groups have been established:
  • Species groups
    • Aquaculture
    • Cattle
    • Horses
    • Other farm- and companion animals
    • Pigs
    • Poultry
    • Sheep & goats
  • Technology groups
    • Genetics
    • Genomics
    • Reproduction
  • Theme groups
    • Diversity and distinctiveness
    • Food quality and safety
    • Robustness
Species expert groups

The species groups will deal with traits of  relevance and species-specific challenges and opportunities (e.g. diseases, environmental impacts, production niches, etc.).
•  Cattle: beef, milk, leather, environmental goods
•  Sheep/Goats: meat, milk, wool, fibre, environmental

•  Genomics and bioinformatics
Mapping, sequencing, annotation, gene identification, epigenetics, functional genomics, control of expression, genetic networks, systems biology
•  Reproductive technologies
